Arizona Newspapers Foundation
What is ANF?
The Arizona Newspapers Foundation was formed late in 1997 to give newspapers an opportunity to assist journalists on a new level. In general, ANA had found that the traditional function of awarding individual scholarships fell short of the Association's goals, since the recipients often did not become journalists.
The Foundation focuses on education, especially through the Newspapers in Education program and through its alliance with the Arizona Interscholastic Press Association. The Foundation has made donations to the AIPA Summer Journalism Workshop at Northern Arizona University and the Minority Students Workshop.
The ANF has also began accepting donations for the Endowment and Journalism Support Fund. The goal is to reach $1 million to use for support of the journalism schools in Arizona's three state universities. Contact John Fearing for more information.
The Foundation is a 501(c)3 charitable organization. Contributions are tax deductible and are payable to the Arizona Newspapers Foundation, 1001 N. Central Ave., Suite 670, Phoenix AZ 85004-1947.
Josie Cantu-Weber of the Tucson Citizen, is president/chairman of the Foundation; Lee Knapp of the Sun in Yuma is Secretary and Mike Quinn of Today's News-Herald in Lake Havasu City is treasurer. Members of the Board of Directors are newspaper managers, educators and other professionals from communities large and small throughout Arizona.

What is the 3for3 Program?

The Arizona Newspapers Foundation is excited to announce the launch of our 2008 "3 for 3" program. With your partnership, ANF hopes to raise $50,000 to fund scholarships and provide financial assistance to the journalism departments at Arizona's three state universities. Due to increasing tuition at Arizona universities, it is more important now than ever for Arizona newspapers to support journalism students and schools. Tuition, fees, books and supplies can cost a student up to $6,000 per semester. Increases upwards of 16 percent have been proposed. We encourage all members to consider pledging 3% of your circulation.
Your generous partnership with students today will impact the world of journalism tomorrow!
For more information, or to make a donation to the Foundation over the phone (have your credit card handy), contact Paula Casey at (602) 261-7655, ext. 102.
Why donate?
Donations and endowment gifts provide security over the long term. Our goal is to build a strong endownment fund to create the financial base we need to train and educate Arizona's next generation of reporters.
The earnings from your gift are divided among Arizona's three state universities: Northern Arizona University, Arizona State University and the University of Arizona. With your donation, you ensure that Arizona continues to grow as an outstanding place of higher education in journalism.
